Welcome to the Juried Art Show’s annual Silent Auction Fundraiser.
The Silent auction is here!
The 2023 Juried Art Show Silent Auction will be taking place on Instagram at @juriedartshow, from February 6th- February 19th!
-
If you are looking to purchase some amazing art and support local Guelph artists then the Juried Art Show’s online Silent Auction fundraiser is the place you’ll want to be!
Every year, to help raise money for the Juried Art Show (JAS), undergraduate students, MFA’s, professors, and alumni of the University of Guelph submit their work to the JAS Silent Auction. Those whose submitted work gets purchased have the option of donating either 50%, 75%, or 100% of the funds to JAS.

Bidding will begin on our Instagram, @juriedartshow, on Monday, February 6th.
There will be six groups of artists and each group of works will be open for bidding for two days. Each groups bidding period will open at 9:00 AM on the first day and close on the second day at 6:00 PM. Bids submitted at 6:00 PM on the dot will therefore not be valid as that is the time when bidding closes. (All times are in EST)
Example: The bidding period for Group 1 will begin on Feb 6th at 9:00 AM and close on Feb 7th at 6:00 PM.
Bidding via Instagram:
Bids will be made on each artworks Instagram post by using the comment feature. To make a bid, simply comment the amount of money - no other information is required.Bidding via Email:
If you wish to make a bid but do not have Instagram, or wish to remain anonymous, please send your bid via email to jasbidding@gmail.com. Please include the artist name, title of work, and the amount you’re bidding. We will comment on Instagram on your behalf. -
If you win… then congratulations!
Once bidding closes, if you hold the winning bid, you will be directly messaged on Instagram asking for your email address. If you won by bidding via email then we’ll already have this information and email you right away. Our email to you will detail the work(s) that you’ve won, options for pickup or delivery, and an invoice, the payment for which can be made via e-transfer to jas@uoguelph.ca. This is the method of payment we prefer, however there are other options if the winner is unable to send e-transfers.
The winning bid amount excludes shipping/delivery, if it is needed. To collect your work after payment, please send us an email at jas@uoguelph.ca and state whether you will be picking up the artwork or need it to be shipped. (More details on Shipping and Pickup below)
Important:
Unless the winner states that they would like to continue bidding in upcoming groups, the winning bidder will have 24 hours after they have received their confirmation to issue their payment. -
Pickup:
Pickup is the preferred method when possible. Further details will be provided to winners.Alternate arrangements can be made at the discretion and availability of JAS. Please start this conversation early if required. JAS coordinators and volunteers have very busy schedules and sticking to the indicated schedule is preferred. Alternate pick up is not guaranteed.
Alternate arrangements will be made by JAS and communicated to winners in the event of inclement weather or increased restriction due to the pandemic.
Shipping:
Shipping is an option for artists or buyers who are not in Guelph, and those who are unable or uncomfortable with picking up the work on campus.Shipping cost will equal an additional $7 per artwork, (unless the work is over 7lbs). Shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer.
Shipping will be facilitated by JAS except in the cases of artists outside of Guelph who cannot get the artwork to JAS and will need to ship the art themselves. In these cases, the artist and buyer will be put in contact to plan shipping.
JAS (and artists) will make every reasonable effort to package artworks to ensure safe shipping. If the buyer would like to pay for shipping insurance, they are encouraged to do so to protect their investment during the shipping process.
JAS and artists participating in the Silent Auction are not responsible for any damages or loss incurred during the shipping process. Shipping of artwork is a risk assumed by the buyer. JAS and participating artists will also not be responsible for any remedy in the case of damage once the artwork has been transferred to the buyer.
-
JAS will not issue refunds for payments already made. Completed transactions are final.
Please only bid if you are confident in your willingness and ability to commit to the purchase in the case of winning the bid.
If a change of heart requires voluntary forfeit of a winning bid, this must be communicated prior to making payment.
In the unlikely event that an artwork is not available for shipping or pickup for any reason, a refund will be issued once verified. This exclusively applies to the unlikely event that JAS or an artist is unable to complete a transaction.

Did you fall in love with some art you didn’t win? Don’t fret! We have some ideas!
Most of our talented artists would love to build their visibility in the community and build their practice and potential clientele. Here are some ideas of how to support your favourite artists and maybe get some art that you love as much, or more, than the one that got away:
• Click on the artist handle in the auction post and follow them on Instagram
• Use Instagram to check out their other work and work in progress
• Reach out in their DMs to inquire about commissions or get a link to their website
• Check out their website or social media and buy artwork for sale there
• Reach out to JAS at jas@uoguelph.ca to ask about an artist you love, and we can ask if they would like to be put in touch with you
If you would like to be added to our mailing list to stay up to date on the auction, or have any questions, please send us an email at jas@uoguelph.ca
